We were greeted very friendly and they couldn't do enough for you at no extra like free valet parking. Had a bus stop right outside to take you to WEM. My daughter and I really enjoyed our stay and would recommend it highly to anyone else.
Location and tie to Murietta restuarant
Bad pillows....room temp was far to warm despite change on controls
It is a nicely renovated older building, giving it a heritage feel.
A single, slow elevator.
The complimentary service and features were great. Parking, breakfast, arrival drinks!
Friendly staff and good price. The complimentary breakfasts were great as were the complimentary drinks.
The only thing I have to complain about is that I believe the toilet tissue is not eco friendly as it left me sore. There are plenty of brands of paper out there that are hypoallergenic.
Love walking Whyte..all the neat shops and restaurants. Good value for your money. Our stay included the continental breakfast and a beverage. Just a nice, leisurely way to spend a weekend.
The price was great and the room was quite comfortable.
Noisy, no soundproofing between rooms. The fire alarm went off wt 5:30am for no rreason and we had to evacuate until the firemen had checked the whole building.
I stayed five nights. Room #37. It was very comfortable, close to downtown and lots of shops and restaurants on Whyte. University is 5 minutes by bus. The complimentary bar was great for a bite and drink.
Excellent friendly staff Cleanliness Location shopping/entertainment
Location. The attached restaurant Murietta's is fantastic.
I have previously stayed at the Vascona and really enjoyed it. This time however, I have to admit it didn't live up to my expectations. My first night there was good. The second night wasn't great by any means. I went to bed about midnight and at three am I was awaken by people coming in from being out at the bars. The slamming of their doors was really loud. I think there should be something installed on the doors to prevent them from slamming shut. It's disturbing as I am a light sleeper. As well, I was in the second last room. The last room on the corner beside me was occupied by a couple. I heard him come back at 3:15 am. They proceeded to fight, as in screaming, swearing and slamming of doors, loudly. This went on until almost five am. Each time I was about to call the front, it would quiet down. However, they would then pick up to where they left off. I mentioned it to the desk and he did apologize, but was a bit unsympathetic. He said he'll make a note on my file if I ever decide to come back. Not overly helpful. I definitely won't be staying there again. I've stayed in a lot of hotels and none have been this loud.
Varscona Hotel was conveniently located to everything, from shops great eating places, buses and nightlife. Saturday market is only a 5 minute walk away. Rooms are comfortable and clean. Staff very good at helping to make your stay comfortable.
Weekend prices are reasonable but week days very expensive
The hotel front and lobby is warm and inviting, unlike the impersonal look of most hotels. The staff were friendly and helpful and the ambience was quaint and friendly. We like the coffe shop on the main floor. The front desk staff readily compensated us for the uncleanliness of the room described below. The hotel is very nicely located and we would stay there again.
Our room smelled bad, like dirty feet or strong body odor. The coffee machine still had coffee in it, which made us wonder how well they cleaned the room. Outside the window was a big pile of pigeon poop, not very nice! We were offered complimentary breakfasts on the web site, however, we recieved only one voucher for a buffet style breakfast which turned out to be a continental breakfast. We were also offered a free drink in the lounge, unfortunately it was closed when we returned from our concert at 2230hr!!
Staff were helpful
The hotel sits on the corner of Whyte Avenue - a major roadway. This street seems to be used late at night as drag race road. raceway. Souped up motorcycles and cars roar up and down the road. I was woken up every night after midnight by their noise. The hotel has free WIFI, but I could never get a signal in my room. I complained for three days, and finally was told to call the internet provider. I did, and the problem still existed. I had to go to the lobby to use my computer. The hotel should have fixed this problem, not leave it up to me.
Very nice staff, nice rooms, great location on Whyte Ave.
They should end the association with Murietta's restaurant. Too expensive, terrible service.
I like the small scale of the hotel as well as a very good restaurant in the same location.
Even though the hotel will valet park your car in a gated area they will not assume any liability for any damage or theft. It is not an area that I would recommend non secured parking.
